A quick escape to Marilog, Buda is ideal especially this summer if you are into nature and prefer cold breeze rather than beach waves and sand. The place is also ideal for sunrise and sunset watching and of course, a sea of clouds!
We started our 2018 summer by going to Sonnenberg Mountain View early in the morning. We just drove from Davao City to Buda, 1 and a half hour drive. I wanted to see sunrise and sea of clouds so bad that I’ve convinced my group to leave at dawn. We arrived on time. Sonnenberg Mountain View became famous and no wonder a lot of people spent their time waiting for the sun to rise. Some also camped and stayed overnight.
We had a quick photo shoot to capture the sunrise. A perfect morning indeed! Cold breeze, sunrise, and a sea of clouds are just perfect to start your day, to clear clouded minds. to relax and to chill.
The sun was fully up and the sea of clouds started to fade. Sonnenberg Mountain View has also a small swimming pool and a cafeteria. Visit Sonnenberg Mountain View on weekdays to avoid a crowded place. Overall, Sonnenberg Mountain View is a very nice spot for sunrise watching. Buda is given for sea of clouds. We witness a lot of them while driving up the road.
How to Get There
From Davao City Proper:
- By Car or Taxi:
- Head along Diversion Road toward Ma-a, turn at the junction to Calinan, pass the Calinan Public Market, then continue into Marilog. Look for the Sonnen Berg Mountain View signage.
- By Jeepney:
- Ride one bound for Calinan, transfer at the public market to a Marilog-bound jeepney, and ask the driver to drop you at Sonnenberg View Resort.
- By Bus from Ecoland Terminal:
- Hop on a bus heading to Cagayan, and notify the conductor to drop you off at Crossing S in Marilog District.
- Travel Time Estimate: About 2 to 2.5 hours from Davao City, depending on traffic and road conditions.
