Mergrande Ocean Resort – Toril Davao City

Like every city, Davao City is widely known for having numerous beautiful and cool swimming pools and inland resorts. One resort that you should put on your travel list when visiting Davao City is the Mergrande Ocean Resort. This summer we decided to try Mergrande Ocean Resort since it is near to our location. Living in Davao City, this is my very first time to visit the resort. I travel beyond Davao City but at last, I had a chance to experience Mergrande Ocean Resort.

I thought nothing fancy about the resort but I can say at being a first time visiting the place, I admired the beauty of the landscaping on the pool when we arrived. The huge mountain like stone in the front looks great, which gives a nature ambiance, plus there’s a waterfalls too coming from the above huge rock formation, it looks like a misty forest specially with pool water that looks greenish. Perfectly looking, certainly relaxing. At night, swimming pool lights adds a fantastic view.

Since that was summertime, the place is so full. We enjoyed the pool even though it’s not that deep as we expected. Depth is only 5 ft. No diving. There were small umbrella cottages available inside and a cafeteria but bringing of food isn’t allowed inside the pool. There are few tables in the cafeteria. They offer snacks, ice cream, halo halo.

If you don’t like the swimming pool, you can try the beach. The sand is fine black with huge waves crashing on the walls. Big waves appear mostly in the afternoon. Around 4pm, I don’t really recommend the beach because it’s dangerous due to its inconsistent sea level, sometimes the sand goes deeper when big waves hit, you might be carried away with the waves and going back to sea after waves crushed on the walls. The resort usually put a note in the beach front and advise not to swim 5pm onwards.

Since bringing of food isn’t allowed inside the pool, you can get a cottage in the beach area. This is ideal specially if you will bring many foods. Sometimes, many guest choose to celebrate birthdays and other occasions in Mergrande Ocean Resort. The huge nipa hut cottage is only PHP300.00. Prices in the pool cafeteria are also expensive so it is good to bring foods with you and take a cottage outside.
