The Little Lagoon – Pamutuan Cave in Bislig City

If you’ve been exploring the hidden gems of Surigao del Sur, you probably already know that it’s not just about waterfalls and white sand beaches. One of our random stopovers while in Bislig City was this curious little place called Pamutuan Cave—also known as The Little Lagoon.

📍 Where is Pamutuan Cave?

Pamutuan Cave is located in Bislig City, Surigao del Sur, and it’s actually just along the national highway. Yep, no need to hike through jungles or climb rocks—just drive past the road and you’ll spot a signage and a small clearing that leads down to the cave.

It’s a quick side trip if you’re doing the Tinuy-an Falls – Hinatuan Enchanted River route or road tripping along the east coast.

👀 My Personal Experience

As someone who’s always found caves a bit… unsettling, I wasn’t exactly thrilled when I peered inside. The opening is wide enough to look into, and once you see that still, dark water at the bottom, it’s easy to let your imagination run wild.

I looked at the cave’s entrance and couldn’t help but think:

“May something ba sa ilalim ng tubig na ‘yan? May nag-aabang ba sa mga kaluluwang naglalakad-lakad sa highway?”

Chos! But seriously, it gave me that eerie feeling—as if there were creatures just hiding behind the rocks, watching. Still, I couldn’t resist taking a closer look.

It’s called The Little Lagoon because of the small, deep pool inside the cave. The water looks calm, but it’s dark and deep enough that you can’t see the bottom. According to locals, some brave people have swum inside (not me, thank you very much), but unless you’re trained, I wouldn’t recommend it.

⚠️ What to Know Before You Visit

  • No entrance fee – It’s free and open to the public.
  • No guide needed, but it’s better to go with someone familiar with the area.
  • There’s a short trail down from the roadside—a bit steep, but manageable.
  • Bring a flashlight or use your phone light if you want to look deeper into the cave.
  • No formal safety barriers, so watch your step, especially near the cave opening.
  • As always, leave no trash behind. Let’s keep the creepy cave clean. 😉

🗺️ How to Get There (from Bislig City Proper)

  • From the city center, drive or ride heading towards Barobo or Hinatuan.
  • Along the highway, ask locals about Pamutuan Cave or Little Lagoon—it’s well-known in the area.
  • Look for a small signboard along the road and a rocky pathway leading down.

It’s an easy 10–15 minute stop, and worth it if you enjoy odd, quiet, mysterious places with a story.

💬 Final Thoughts

Caves still creep me out, not gonna lie. And Pamutuan Cave was no exception. There was a moment I thought I saw something move in the water (probably just a leaf… I hope 😬). But I have to admit—it’s that kind of quiet, eerie place that sticks in your memory. So if you’re in Bislig and want a quick, offbeat side trip, check out Pamutuan Cave. Just don’t go alone… unless you want to feel like you’re in a horror movie intro. Chos lang. 😂
